Camp Marburg

Today is simply gorgeous, despite stepping outside to a crisp 34 degrees this morning on my way to class. I am trying to soak up the sun as much as possible while it is still nice out and worry daily about the cold weather to come in Berlin.

But I have made it through another week of language and culture classes. I am so close to the end of my time in Marburg, that I am actually pretty sad to leave my friends that I have made here. (But not too sad - I am so excited about starting my research and living in Berlin : )

When I was younger, summer camp was one of my most favorite times of the year. I always looked forward to meeting new people and trying new things, complete from pseudo-camping to sailing a small sunfish to learning a new backstroke start. It was a week away from the normal routine and parents, and I loved the activities and freedom. But after a week or two, I was always ready to get back. After my few weeks in Marburg, I have the exact same feeling as being in summer camp. I am staying in a small dorm, knowing completely that is a temporary set up. So my walls are still white, and it does not feel too much like home. I have met so many fun and exciting people that are Fulbrighting all around Germany, and the friendships have grown really fast, like in summer camp, because we are all in a similar situation. But after a few weeks of class after class and organized activities, everyone is itching to get out of Marburg and start work on their projects. So it has been a very interesting experience here at Camp Marburg.

I definately would not trade my time here. It has been an incredible start to my Fulbright experience and a perfect way to gradually transition into the german culture. And as previously stated, all the new Fulbright friends are fabulous!

We have a group activity this afternoon to the European Central Bank. I am really excited! We are traveling by bus to Frankfurt and having a guided tour afterhours. So I will let everyone know of the adventures later!

Hope all is well and lots of love!!
